What is Theatre on Ice?

Theatre on Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating that is popular in Europe., where it is known as Ballet on Ice.  It combines the grace of figure skating and the excitement of theatre and dance.  Teams consist of between 8 and 24 skaters.  Solo skating is not the primary focus, but is permitted if it enhances the  overall telling of the program’s story.  The programs are judged by regular US Figure Skating judges and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry and musicality.

Skaters both competitive and of recreational levels can learn and  grow on a theater team.  Theatre teams also promote team and club spirit.  Both skaters and clubs can experience great rewards participating on Theatre On Ice team.

Skaters receive the following benefits:

  • A chance to develop the dramatic side of their skating.
  • A chance to be a part of a team while using their technical skills
  • A chance to travel locally and internationally
  • A chance to make new friends both in and out of the club

MISSION statement

IceWorks Theatre on Ice has a mission to train and develop skaters in technical and artistic aspects of their skating.  The skaters will train for National Theatre on Ice Competition, and eventually an International Competition.  We encourage good sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for all skaters in our quest to reach our goals as a team.
